FDA approves CardioMEMS update letting heart failure patients view their own readings

Abbott announced on October 5, 2026 that FDA approved new capabilities for its CardioMEMS HF System, an implanted pulmonary artery pressure sensor used to manage heart failure. The update adds a CardioGuide HF App that lets patients view their own pressure readings on a smartphone for the first time, plus a Dynamic Treatment Plan feature that lets clinicians pre-set medication-adjustment instructions the app sends to patients automatically when their readings change. Abbott says both features will roll out later in 2026.

Why it's notable: Gives heart failure patients direct visibility into a measurement care teams already use to guide treatment, and lets clinicians push pre-approved medication changes to CardioMEMS-enrolled patients without a separate office visit or call.
