CMS finalizes deeper 2027 Medicare physician pay cuts and delays its remote monitoring vendor limit
CMS issued the final CY 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule on Nov. 4. It sets conversion factors of $32.95 for qualifying APM participants (down 1.83%) and $32.63 for everyone else (down 2.31%), deeper cuts than the July proposal. CMS softened its proposed same-day visit penalty to a 20% reduction for the lower-paid service, and it replaced the G2211 add-on code with a modifier. It also raised the BASIC track shared-savings rate for ACOs. Fierce Healthcare reports CMS backed off its proposal to stop paying for remote monitoring done by third-party vendor staff and pushed that restriction to a later year.
Why it's notable: The final rule sets what Medicare pays practices in 2027, and many practices will see less than they expected from the proposal. Remote monitoring programs that depend on outside vendors get more time to adjust.
