Epic to embed a pharmacy price-comparison tool with Amazon, Lilly, Cuban, Costco
Epic announced Prescription Marketplace, a tool built into its EHR that will let clinicians and patients compare a medication's insurance price against cash prices at participating pharmacies before a prescription is sent. Amazon Pharmacy, Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs, Costco and Eli Lilly's LillyDirect have committed to sharing their pricing data, and Epic says any pharmacy can join. The company plans to launch the feature in summer 2027.
Why it's notable: Prescribers using Epic could surface cheaper cash-pay options at the point of care instead of patients discovering a lower price only after leaving the pharmacy counter, addressing a cost barrier that Epic says causes over 40% of US adults to skip medications.
