General Medicine raises $120M, backed by Eli Lilly and Mercy Health
General Medicine, a direct-to-consumer healthcare marketplace founded by PillPack alumni TJ Parker and Elliot Cohen with former Amazon executive Ashwin Muralidharan, raised a $120 million Series B led by Andreessen Horowitz. Eli Lilly and Mercy Health (through Granger Management) joined the round alongside Matrix, VXI Capital and BoxGroup, bringing the company's total funding to $152 million. The company says its platform now lists more than 2,900 purchasable healthcare products and services, including primary and urgent care, chronic condition management, specialist e-consults, prescriptions, lab testing and care coordination, available with or without insurance.
Why it's notable: A pharmaceutical manufacturer and a health system are both financially backing a retail-style storefront for buying care directly, a sign that incumbents see consumer-directed, price-transparent care shopping as a channel worth investing in rather than just competing against.
