Grindr agrees to buy PrEP telehealth provider PurposeMed for $250M
Grindr agreed to acquire PurposeMed, the Canadian parent company of PrEP telehealth provider Freddie, for $250 million upfront ($190 million cash, $60 million stock) plus up to $70 million in performance-based payments, with the deal expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. The acquisition launches a new business line, Grindr Health, which will route Grindr's dating-app users into PrEP prescribing, STI testing and medication delivery through Freddie's existing telehealth and pharmacy network. Freddie currently serves roughly 55,000 patients across the US and Canada and projects more than $80 million in 2026 revenue. Grindr says it eventually plans to add erectile dysfunction and GLP-1 prescribing to the platform.
Why it's notable: It is one of the largest moves yet by a consumer tech platform directly into prescribing and medication delivery, and could meaningfully expand PrEP access and testing volume funneled to telehealth and sexual health providers.
