Northwestern Medicine embeds OpenEvidence AI directly in Epic for its care teams

Northwestern Medicine began giving clinicians single sign-on access to OpenEvidence's AI-driven clinical search tool directly inside its Epic EHR starting October 8, 2026. Doctors, nurses and pharmacists can launch the tool without re-entering credentials to check drug dosing and interactions, review current guidelines, and get answers cited to peer-reviewed literature including NEJM and JAMA. The health system describes it as the first phase of a broader push to deploy clinical AI safely across the bedside workflow.

Why it's notable: Embedding AI-driven evidence lookup inside the EHR, rather than as a separate app, removes a step clinicians have to take mid-visit and extends access beyond physicians to the full care team.
