University of Texas System expands Abridge ambient AI across all its hospitals
Abridge and the University of Texas System announced an enterprise-wide agreement on October 8, 2026, giving UT institutions — including UT Southwestern, MD Anderson, UTHealth Houston, UT Health San Antonio and others — systemwide access to its AI clinical-documentation platform, coordinated through the state-funded UT REAL Health AI initiative. The deal follows a 2025 pilot across five locations and more than 50 specialties that the companies say saw a 73% increase in clinicians recording encounters and an 80% increase in monthly AI-generated notes over the past year. UT's hospitals and clinics handle nearly 11.7 million outpatient visits and over 2 million hospital days annually.
Why it's notable: It extends ambient AI documentation to one of the largest academic health systems in the country and sets up future use for care-gap identification, payer workflows and clinical trial matching, signaling how far scribe tools are moving beyond note-taking.
